Trailer brakes take load off your tow vehicle's brakes and help you stop safely, especially with heavier trailers. This range includes trailer brake parts and components.
Check your trailer's brake type and size before ordering, and check the brake requirements for your trailer's weight in your state. For brake controllers, see caravan and towing. If you need a hand matching parts, call us on 02 9413 3166.
Not keen on fitting it yourself? Our team will sort it, properly.
In Australia, trailers over 750kg aggregate trailer mass need brakes, and heavier trailers need more advanced braking. Over 2,000kg, brakes are needed on every wheel, along with a breakaway system. Check the rules for your trailer with your state road authority.
Electric brakes are controlled by a brake controller in the tow vehicle, giving adjustable, responsive braking. Mechanical override brakes work automatically as the trailer pushes against the tow vehicle. Electric brakes are common on caravans and heavier trailers.
If your trailer has electric brakes, yes. The brake controller is fitted in the tow vehicle and sends power to the trailer brakes when you brake.
Test them at low speed in a safe area before every trip. With electric brakes, use the manual control on the brake controller to check the trailer slows on its own. Inspect magnets, shoes and drums regularly.
Many owners have caravan brakes and bearings checked once a year or before a big trip. Heavy use, corrugated roads and water crossings call for more frequent checks.
