Driving lights, usually a pair of round lights, are designed to throw light a long way down the road. Light bars often give a wider spread. Many touring setups use driving lights for distance, sometimes with a light bar for width.
Vehicle lighting in Australia must comply with the Australian Design Rules and your state's rules, and requirements vary for headlight globes, driving lights and light bars. Check with your state road authority before modifying headlights or fitting extra lights.
Yes. A proper harness with a relay, fuse and switch is the safe way to wire driving lights, so the high current doesn't run through your vehicle's existing light switch. Many harnesses connect to the high beam circuit.
If you're comfortable with 12V wiring, many driving light kits are designed for home fitting. Mount them securely, aim them correctly, and fuse the wiring properly.
A spot beam concentrates light into a narrow, long range beam for seeing far down the road. A flood beam spreads light wider and shorter, which suits lighting up the sides of the track or a work area.
