Rubber vs braided, what is the actual difference

Rubber brake hoses are what most cars come with from the factory, and for standard daily driving they do the job. Over time though, rubber breaks down. Under hard or repeated braking it can flex and expand slightly, which shows up as a spongy pedal right when you need firm, predictable stopping power the most. Braided stainless steel hoses solve that. The steel braiding stops the hose from expanding under pressure, so the pedal feel stays firm and consistent, braking distance stays predictable, and the hose itself holds up better against corrosion and general wear.

When a custom hose makes sense

  • Lifted or lowered suspension

    Standard length hoses are built for standard ride height. Once you have changed that, you often need a hose built to the new length.

  • Brake or clutch system upgrades

    Changing calipers, master cylinders, or clutch components can mean a different fitting or hose run than what came standard.

  • Fittings that do not match

    We build hoses with the correct fittings for your setup, so you are not trying to adapt a part that is close enough.

  • General replacement

    If your existing hose is showing cracking, bulging, or general age, a like for like replacement is a straightforward job.

What to bring or tell us

The more detail you can give us, the more accurate your custom hose will be. That includes your vehicle make, model and year, any suspension or brake system changes, and if possible, your old hose or its length and fitting type.
