Electrical & Lighting FAQs

Can I install 12V accessories myself?

Simple plug in accessories are easy to fit. Anything wired into the vehicle should use the right size cable, fuses close to the battery, and good connections. If you're not confident with 12V wiring, have it done by an auto electrician.

Why do I need a fuse on 12V wiring?

A fuse protects the wiring, not just the device. If a cable shorts or overloads, the fuse blows before the cable overheats. Fit the fuse as close to the power source as possible and match it to the cable's rating.

Can East Coast Spares fit a dual battery system?

Yes. Dual battery installation is available through Chatswood Brake & Clutch, our service centre in Chatswood. Give us a call to talk through your setup.

How do I find electrical parts for my vehicle?

Select your vehicle at the top of the page for vehicle specific parts, and check the listing for voltage, current rating and connector type. If you're not sure, give us a call on 02 9413 3166.

What's the difference between 12V and 24V systems?

Most cars and light 4WDs run 12V systems, while many trucks and some heavy vehicles run 24V. Always check an accessory's voltage rating matches your vehicle before fitting it.
