About Fuel Filters

The fuel filter stops dirt and water reaching your injectors. It's especially important on modern diesels, where water in the fuel can damage the injection system. Fuel water separators collect that water so it can be drained off.

Our range includes fuel filters, fuel filter kits and fuel water separators. Select your vehicle at the top of the page to see filters that fit, or call us on 02 9413 3166 if you'd like help choosing.

Fuel Filters FAQs

How often should I change my fuel filter?

It depends on the vehicle and fuel type. Diesel fuel filters usually need changing more often than petrol filters, and some petrol cars have a filter inside the tank that's rarely replaced. Follow your service schedule, and change it sooner if you've had bad fuel.

What are the signs of a clogged fuel filter?

Common signs include hesitation or loss of power under load, rough running, hard starting, or the engine cutting out. On diesels, a water in fuel warning light may also come on.

What does a fuel water separator do?

A fuel water separator removes water from diesel before it reaches the injectors. Water can damage modern diesel fuel systems, so the separator should be drained and serviced regularly. Many 4WD owners add a secondary filter for extra protection.

Should I carry a spare fuel filter on a trip?

For remote touring in a diesel, many people do. Fuel quality can vary in remote areas, and a spare filter can get you moving again if one blocks.

Do I need to bleed the fuel system after changing a diesel fuel filter?

Often, yes. Many diesels need air bled from the fuel system after a filter change, using a hand primer or a specific procedure. Check your workshop manual before starting.
