About Hubs, Bearings and Seals

Wheel bearings let your wheels spin smoothly, and seals keep grease in and dirt and water out. A humming or grinding noise that changes with speed is a common sign of a worn bearing.

This range includes wheel hubs, bearings and seals. Select your vehicle at the top of the page to see parts that fit. For trailer bearings, see trailer spares. If you're not sure which bearing you need, call us on 02 9413 3166.

Hubs, Bearings and Seals FAQs

What does a bad wheel bearing sound like?

A worn wheel bearing usually makes a humming, droning or grinding noise that gets louder with speed, and may change when you turn left or right.

What are the signs of a bad wheel bearing?

As well as noise, look for play when the wheel is rocked, a vibration through the steering, uneven tyre wear, or an ABS warning light on some vehicles.

Is it safe to drive with a bad wheel bearing?

Not for long. A failing bearing can overheat and, in severe cases, seize or allow the wheel to come loose. Have it checked and replaced promptly.

Should I replace the hub assembly or just the bearing?

It depends on the vehicle. Many modern cars use a sealed hub assembly that's replaced as a unit. Others have bearings that are pressed in or adjusted. Check the listing for your vehicle.

Should I replace the seals when replacing a wheel bearing?

Yes. A new seal keeps grease in and water and dirt out. Fitting an old seal can shorten the life of a new bearing.
