About Diagnostic and Testing Tools

Find the problem before you start replacing parts. This range from Toledo includes a petrol compression tester, feeler gauge, 6 to 24 volt circuit tester, mechanic's stethoscope and a memory retainer that keeps radio and computer settings when the battery is disconnected.

A compression test is a quick way to check engine health, and a stethoscope helps pinpoint where a noise is coming from. Questions about a tool? Call us on 02 9413 3166.

Diagnostic and Testing Tools FAQs

What is an OBD2 scanner?

An OBD2 scanner plugs into your car's diagnostic port, usually under the dashboard, and reads fault codes from the engine computer. It can help you understand why a check engine light is on.

Will an OBD2 scanner work with my car?

Most petrol cars sold in Australia from the mid 2000s onwards support OBD2, and many diesels from later. Check the scanner's compatibility details on the listing.

Can an OBD2 scanner clear the check engine light?

Many scanners can clear fault codes. If the fault isn't fixed, the light will come back, so use the code to find and fix the cause.

What does a multimeter do?

A multimeter measures voltage, current and resistance. It's useful for testing batteries, charging systems, fuses, wiring and sensors.

What other diagnostic tools are useful?

Battery testers, test lights, compression testers and coolant pressure testers are all useful for tracking down common faults.
