About Caravan & Towing

Gear that makes towing and setting up camp easier. This range includes REDARC Tow-Pro brake controller kits and Mean Mother caravan accessories, such as hose storage bags, awning tensioners and rail hangers, step mats and camping clamps.

An electric brake controller lets your tow vehicle work your trailer or caravan's electric brakes. Check that the kit suits your vehicle before ordering. For trailer parts, see trailer spares, or call us on 02 9413 3166.

Caravan & Towing FAQs

How much can my car tow?

Check your vehicle's towing capacity and tow ball weight limit in the owner's manual or on the manufacturer's website. Also check the gross combination mass, and remember the tow bar and coupling have their own ratings. The lowest limit applies.

What caravan accessories do I need?

Common essentials include a tow ball and weight distribution hitch if needed, a brake controller for electric brakes, towing mirrors, a jockey wheel, wheel chocks, levelling ramps, hoses and power leads.

Do I need towing mirrors?

In Australia, you must be able to see clearly behind the trailer. If the caravan or trailer is wider than your vehicle, towing mirrors are usually needed. Check your state's rules.

What's included in a tow kit?

It depends on the kit. Tow kits commonly include a tow ball, tongue, pin and clip, and sometimes a wiring harness. Check the listing to see exactly what's included.

What should I check before towing a caravan?

Check the coupling, safety chains, electrical plug, lights, brakes and breakaway system, tyre pressures, and that the van is level and the load is balanced. Do a brake test at low speed before heading off.
