About Hoses & Fittings

Hoses and clamps are small parts that keep fluids and air where they belong. This range includes fuel hose, air and intake hoses, transmission hoses, washer hose, tubing, hose clamps and hose fittings.

Always use hose rated for the fluid and temperature it will carry, especially for fuel. For radiator and heater hoses, see coolant and cooling. If you need help matching a size, call us on 02 9413 3166.

Hoses & Fittings FAQs

When should radiator hoses be replaced?

Replace hoses that are cracked, swollen, soft and spongy, hard and brittle, or leaking at the ends. Squeeze them when the engine is cold: a healthy hose feels firm but flexible.

What type of hose clamp should I use?

Worm drive clamps suit most general purpose hoses. Spring clamps are common on factory cooling hoses because they keep tension as the hose expands and contracts. T bolt clamps suit larger hoses and turbo or intercooler hoses under boost.

How do I find the right size hose clamp?

Measure the outside diameter of the hose once it's fitted over the pipe, then choose a clamp whose range covers that size, ideally with the measurement near the middle of its range.

Does the radiator cap matter?

Yes. The radiator cap holds the cooling system at the right pressure, which raises the coolant's boiling point. A worn cap can cause coolant loss and overheating. Replace it with one of the correct pressure rating.

Can I use any hose for coolant or fuel?

No. Hoses are made for specific fluids, temperatures and pressures. Use hose rated for the job, such as coolant, fuel or vacuum, and the correct internal diameter.
